Trust me, I know it can be incredibly frustrating to be the skinny guy in the gym. You lift a ton, eat healthy and you can't seem to make any progress when it comes to putting any mass on your tiny frame. It's almost like the big guys that are throwing around incredible weight are silently laughing at how puny you look compared to them.
A lot of guys, including myself, have been there and like I said, I know exactly how frustrating and embarrassing it can be. It seems like you do so much work and you never have anything to show for it, never mind how crappy you feel when you see a bigger guy that has everything going for him.
The problem you have to realize is that your lack of success has nothing to do with your workout ethic or commitment, assuming you're doing the right things, of course. The problem is that you're actually trying to hard, in fact.
It was a big shift in focus for me when I discovered this. As skinny guys, we have higher than normal metabolisms. We burn a lot of calories throughout the day for no reason other than our body was built that way. While this might be good for most people, for us trying to put on the pounds, it's not.
First, let me guess, you're in the gym 5 days doing all sorts of splits and body parts. Cut it out. You're simply working to hard and robbing your muscles of the calories they need to rest, recover and grow bigger and stronger. You don't need to work a muscle to death to spark new growth; you simply need to perform an amount of work that will cause your muscle to adapt to that. As soon as you've done that, it's now time to rest and recover.
Secondly, which is tied into the first part, you must eat more throughout the day. As I said, we have unnaturally high metabolisms and we need to keep feeding our body so it can feed our muscles.
Cut down on the training, but still lift intensely, eat more and your body will be forced to react by building more muscle.
